Marc Pointud, Esq., has been elected as Honorary Member of the West Indies Yacht Club, at the General Committee meeting in date of May the 6th, A.D. 2016.
Marc Pointud, Esq., was elected to Honorary Membership of the West Indies Yacht Club at the Executive Committee’ meeting of May 2016 for his achievements in bringing public attention to the protection, preservation and promotion of the French Lighthouses’ heritage. Maintaining maritime heritage and passing it to the next generations is one of the founding commitments of our Club, and by his endeavours, Mr Pointud deserved recognition.

Mr Marc POINTUD is a Frenchmen, born in 1951 and living in Brittany. Doctor in Public International Law and as well as Doctor in Geography of the Seas, Marc Pointud was honored as a Laureate of the Zellidja Foundation (1970). Since he satisfactorily finished his university career, he devoted his efforts to maritime heritage preservation. His passion for the Seas has brought him to nautical antique business in which he has been appraising antique nautical memorabilia for auction houses. This included the brokerage of historic pieces of maritime art such as paintings (old and news masters), books, furniture, scientific maritime instruments, ship models, traditionnal sailor’s artefacts (ships in bottles, ex-votos, three-masted ships souvenirs, etc.) and classic yachting items. He pioneered the concept of placing some carefully-choosen maritime collectibles and artefacts in modern yachts decoration to add to those contemporary interiors this outstanding heritage touch and connection that they so often miss. Nowadays he provides consultancy services by advising private and public collectors as well amateurs for whom he seeks or sells antique nautical heritage’ treasures. As a very keen sailor whom started sailing aged 14 and never left since then, he has trained for many years young people to become captains of sailing boats. In 2002, he founded the French National Society for the Preservation of Lighthouses and Beacons’ Heritage (Société Nationale pour le Patrimoine des Phares et Balises), which he has served as President ever since. He lectures on all topics related to maritime history and heritage. |
